Change of President at the Kiesler Foundation Vienna
After sixteen years as Head of the Board Dieter Bogner handed over his position to the New York-based architect Hani Rashid.
As co-founder and art theorist Dieter Bogner was always interested in conveying the work of the avant-garde artist Frederick Kiesler to a broad public. On this occasion the Festschrift „Preserve and Activate“ was published, that documents Dieter Bogner’s dedication as well as his generous donations, which significantly expanded the collection of the Foundation.
Hani Rashid, Kiesler Prize winner and Professor of Architecture at the University for Applied Arts Vienna since 2011, is one of the leading international architects sharing Kiesler’s multidisciplinary artistic approach – in the future he sees the Kiesler Foundation Vienna increasingly embedded in an international context.
Dr. Claudia Schmied, Austrian Federal Minister for Education, the Arts and Culture: “I am happy that the internationally renowned Kiesler Prize winner Hani Rashid could be won as the new Head of the Board for the Austrian Frederick and Lillian Kiesler Foundation. Rashid’s perception of the arts and architecture are closely connected to the oeuvre of the great visionary Frederick Kiesler. My special thanks go to Dieter Bogner, who for decades responsibly and purposefully positioned the Kiesler Foundation in the international cultural community. He made an important contribution in imparting the multidisciplinary, visionary art and architectural approach of Frederick Kiesler.”
Dr. Karlheinz Töchterle, Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research, thanks Dieter Bogner for his valuable work: “Due to his extraordinary commitment, his profound expertise and his many international contacts Dieter Bogner not only excellently preserved the legacy of Frederick and Lillian Kiesler, but also propagated it internationally and presented it in many exhibitions.” With Prof. Hani Rashid a committed and internationally renowned successor was found, who will further disseminate Kiesler’s oeuvre.
Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny, executive Vienna City Councillor of Cultural Affairs: “With his competence and experience Dieter Bogner contributed to the research, comprehension and documentation of the visionary work of the Austro-American artist and architect Frederick Kiesler. During his presidency the Kiesler Foundation grew into an internationally renowned research institution“, emphasized Mailath-Pokorny on the occasion of the inauguration of Hani Rashid. “With Hani Rashid, himself Kiesler Prize winner of the year 2004, an innovative, internationally linked architect was won, who will in his presidency focus on exhibitions and educational programs, as well as establishing new cooperations with contemporary art and architectural institutions.”

Minister for Science and Research Karlheinz Töchterle visits the
Kiesler Foundation Vienna
The Kiesler Foundation Vienna preserves and studies one of the most significant collections of European avant-garde – the estate of the architect, artist and theoretician Frederick Kiesler (1890-1965). On December 5, 2012 the Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research Dr. Karlheinz Töchterle could get a picture of the Foundation’s widespread research, exhibition and publishing activities with a tour through the archive and current exhibition about this year’s Kiesler Prize winner Andrea Zittel.
The discussions focussed on Kiesler’s interdisciplinary conception that regarded architecture and art as well as natural science and social sciences and integrated all of them into his theoretic analysis. Kiesler’s even today virulent mindset and the ongoing international reception convey the Foundation’s intention to make the estate-related material accessible to the contemporary academic discourse as impulse for the future.
